Email Marketing – Invaluable Tool or Fading Technology?

Editor, MGI

November 2018

The first cardinal sin in marketing is assuming your product or service is THE answer to everyone’s dreams and prayers.

In the ever-growing list of tools a savvy marketer can use to grow their business one question always boils to the top – should I invest in email marketing? In this three part series we’ll dig into the pros and cons of this very important question.

Things are finally starting to come together. You’ve worked hard to build a foundation that will grow your business to epic proportions.

  • Settle on a product … check
  • Build a website … check
  • Write that 300-page business plan and have it reviewed by your Stanford Grad School nephew … next week 😉

Feel like you’re missing something? Oh yeah, a marketing strategy! More specifically, a great channel to build as one of the foundations of your marketing presence for years to come. And what better channel than email? You know, the channel with the highest ROI in marketing! Yeah, that one.

You know, the channel with the highest ROI in marketing! Yeah, that one.

I know, some of you are thinking, email? This isn’t the 90’s and I’m not marketing to Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan (good movie, though). Before you move on to the next article you might want to take a look at the stats below – your bottom line will thank you!

  • Total email accounts are expected to exceed 5 billion by the end of 2018 and have grown at an average 6% for the past three years
  • Total emails sent/received are expected to exceed 235 billion/day by the end of 2018 – an annual 5% growth rate for the past three years
  • 58% of adults wake up and immediately check their email
  • 91% of consumers check their email daily
  • Email remains 40 times more effective at converting sales than the top social media sites
  • And, most importantly, every $1 spent on email marketing produces $44 in return!

Convinced? Good, now that we have the rationalization out of the way let’s look at an approach to get you started.
